HELB Announces Ksh 500k Loans for Nurses, How to Apply.
The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has opened loan applications for nurses and midwives seeking to advance their professional training, offering up to Ksh 500,000.
In a statement on Thursday, March 5, HELB said the initiative was supported by the Johnson and Johnson Foundation in partnership with AMREF Health Africa.
The programme, dubbed the Advanced Nursing Education Loan, will provide study loans of up to Ksh 500,000 at an annual interest rate of 4 per cent to nurses and midwives pursuing advanced and specialised nursing courses at approved training institutions across the country.
According to details provided by HELB, beneficiaries will enjoy quicker loan processing, a competitive interest rate and flexible repayment periods of up to 60 months.
However, repayments will be facilitated through convenient employer check-off arrangements for salaried applicants.
The loan is open to both pre-service students and employed nurses, and interested applicants must apply on or before June 30, 2026.
The board said pre-service students can access funding for higher diplomas and studies. In comparison, salaried applicants may use the loan to finance higher diplomas, undergraduate, master’s and phd programmes.
How to Apply
Applicants must provide an admission letter from a recognised institution certified by the Nursing Council of Kenya, copies of their national ID and KRA PIN, identification documents for two employed guarantors, and a recent passport-size photograph.
However, for salaried applicants, copies of the most recent three months’ pay slips are also required.
Eligible candidates have been urged to submit their applications through the HELB online portal, with applicants advised to indicate their correct level of study as Higher National Diploma, degree or master’s when creating their profiles.
At the same time, they are required to indicate that they are not administered by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (Kuccps) under the education background.
They are required to first register and activate their accounts before selecting the “Advanced Nursing Education Fund” under the loan application section.
The board clarified that the application process is fully digital, and applicants will be able to track the status of their requests through the portal after submission.
