KITI Announces May Intake for C-, D Students; How to Apply.
The Kenya Industrial Training Institute (KITI) has invited students and workers seeking to pursue short-term and long-term technical, industrial, and business courses to apply for its May intake.
In a notice published in the government publication MyGov on Tuesday, March 2, the institute noted that it is offering KNEC Examined diploma and craft certificate programmes, as well as short-term industrial skills upgrading courses tailored for employees in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Small and Medium Industries (SMIs).
Long-term courses, which have a duration of between three months and two years, are offered across multiple departments, including Building and Construction as well as the Clothing and Textile Department.
Other departments include the Leather and Tannery Department, the I.C.T. Department, the Mechanical Engineering Department, the Automotive Engineering Department, the Electrical and Electronics Department, the Food and Beverage Department, and Entrepreneurship.
Short-term courses include plumbing, hairdressing, Garment making, Welding, Food and beverage production, Bread making, electrical installation, CCTV installation, computer-aided design, leather and turning, and entrepreneurship skills and have a duration of between two days and three months.
According to the notice, entry requirements vary by course, with diploma programmes generally requiring a minimum KCSE grade of C- and craft certificate courses requiring a minimum of D plain. Students can decide whether to be boarders or non-boarders.
For most long-term programmes, boarders pay Ksh32,500 for the first term and Ksh25,500 for subsequent terms, while non-boarders pay Ksh23,000 for the first term and Ksh16,000 thereafter.
On the other hand, short-term courses range between Ksh6,000 for two-day tailor-made courses such as juice, yoghurt, and jam making; Ksh10,000 for two-week bread-making courses; and Ksh25,000 for barista training.
The institution charges Ksh10,000 per month for computer-aided courses and Ksh18,000 for CCT installation and mobile phone repair.
“The Institute is well equipped with state-of-the-art training facilities/equipment, including a modern and registered medical facility with qualified medical staff offering medical and counselling services to the trainees,” the notice read.
Applications should be made before or on March 25, intake, through the eCitizen portal or directly through the KITI website.
Applicants should submit copies of KCSE/KCPE certificates or result slips, National ID, a birth certificate, and a non-refundable application fee of Ksh300, and should be addressed to the Director, KITI.
