Govt Announces when to Release KCSE 2025 Exam Results.

Julius Ogamba, the cabinet secretary for education, has denied social media rumors that the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results were covertly issued by the government without public notice.

Despite an official policy that forbids ranking schools in the national examination results, the accusations surfaced when an online post claimed that Kapsabet Boys High School had won the national exams.

A screenshot allegedly showing the CS announcing the results on television was shared by those disseminating the false information, and it quickly gained popularity on several social media platforms.

“Treat such fake and misleading news with the contempt it deserves,” Ogamba said in a statement shared on Saturday.

The government emphasised that the official release of the results remains the responsibility of the Ministry of Education, through the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

A source at KNEC told Kenyans.co.ke: “Relax, tell the parents and the concerned stakeholders to relax. It is only the Ministry that is in an official capacity to speak on the dates. However, we do not understand the pressure and the misinformation doing the rounds. During all previous years, we have never made official communications indicating the exact dates when we release the results.”

In December last year, while attending the Omogusii Cultural Festival at Kenyoro School Grounds in North Mugirango Constituency, Nyamira County, CS Ogamba announced that the 2024 KCSE results would be released in the second week of January 2025, ahead of January 15.

“The KCSE examination results will be released within the next two weeks. Traditionally, the KCSE exams are normally announced in January, and we are keeping to that tradition,” Ogamba said.

He also clarified potential confusion surrounding the timing of exam result releases. While results were often announced in December, those were for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), which was not conducted this year due to the rollout of the new education curriculum.

“The exams previously released in December were the KCPE results, but this year, we did not have that examination. This may have led to some confusion,” Ogamba explained.

The 2024 KCSE exams officially began on October 22 and concluded in November. The examinations were administered in 10,755 centers, with a record-high 965,501 candidates, up from 903,138 in 2023.

The marking process was completed on December 13, 2024, following extensive efforts by examiners at 35 designated marking centers.
