Govt Releases School Capitation Ahead of School Reopening.
Just a few days before classes resume, the government delivers capitation funds, giving parents and school administrators a sense of relaxation.
For Term One of 2026, public basic education institutions nationwide received Ksh 44,245,066,500.85 from the Ministry of Education.
In order to ensure that schools have the resources they require when students return on January 5, 2026, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba announced the release.
The largest portion, Ksh 26,082,798,334.75, went to Free Day Secondary Education.
Free Primary Education received Ksh 3,703,074,646.10, while Free Day Junior School Education received Ksh 14,459,193,520.00.
With their reporting date set for January 12, 2026, Grade 10 students are getting ready to enroll in Senior Schools for the first time.
“The Government affirms its commitment to fulfil its duty to learners and educational institutions, in line with Article 53 of the Constitution that entitles every child to free and compulsory basic education,” said CS Ogamba.
The Ministry confirmed that the government continues to cap senior school tuition at Ksh 22,244 per student each year.
School officials have been advised not to charge parents unapproved fees and to utilize finances properly.
“School heads and principals are directed to ensure prudent use of these public resources entrusted to their care for the benefit of learners, and to desist from imposing any extra levies or fees,” the CS emphasized.
Any verified cases of resource misappropriation or unauthorized fee collection will face firm action from the Ministry.
The timely release ensures smooth operations as millions of Kenyan children return to class this week.
