KNUT advises teachers to have patience as the government makes CBA pay adjustments.
Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has urged educators nationwide to exercise patience until the government carries out the pay increases outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
During the funeral service for the late Soita Wanyama Cheloti, which was conducted in Kaptanai village in the Kabuchai constituency on Friday, Namisi made the statements.
Teachers, union leaders, SACCO executives, and local residents were among the hundreds of mourners who attended the sorrowful event.
Namisi informed teachers during his speech that the union was keeping a careful eye on the CBA’s implementation and interacting with the appropriate government organizations to make sure the agreed-upon pay increases were being implemented.
In his address, Namisi reassured teachers that the union was closely monitoring the implementation of the CBA and engaging with relevant government agencies to ensure that the agreed-upon salary increments are delivered.
“I call upon teachers to be patient as the government fulfils its commitment to the CBA,” Namisi said. “I also encourage them to join SACCOs as a means of saving and building a secure financial future, especially in these challenging economic times.” The late Cheloti, until his death, served as Director at Ng’arisha SACCO, the largest savings and credit cooperative in Bungoma County.
He was widely recognised for his dedication to promoting financial literacy and economic empowerment among members, particularly in the teaching profession.
Speakers at the funeral paid glowing tribute to Cheloti’s leadership, describing him as a visionary who believed in the power of collective savings to transform lives.
His contribution to strengthening Ng’arisha SACCO earned him respect across the county and beyond. Among those present at the funeral were NEC member Moses Masika, senior SACCO officials, KNUT leaders from various branches, and a large number of educators who had worked closely with Cheloti.
